Board Notes - February 2008
Compiled by Toby Schwartz from minutes by Toby Schwartz. These notes cover some of the highlights of the OrigamiUSA Board meeting of February 14, 2008..
Wendy Zeichner, the treasurer, reported that further analysis of PCOC is under way. There are lots of issues with having a PCOC out of the country. These include money transfers, rate of exchange and customs rules. The 2006 books are closed, and the 2007 books are up-to-date. We are preparing for the 2007 annual audit.
The current membership is 1668 compared with 1623 last month and 1453 a year ago. Hurray! Our membership is growing.
Call for Nominations letters will go out shortly for the 2008 Board elections. The seats held by the following Board members are up for election: Tony Cheng, Tom Hull, Marc Kirschenbaum, June Sakamoto, Janet Yelle and Wendy Zeichner.
Our special guests for convention have received and accepted their invitations.
Nick Robinson (UK) and Nicolas Terry (France) will be coming to convention 2008. FIT has already been contacted. Happily, all convention attendees can expect to stay in the 27th Street housing. NOA will be bringing a large contingent of Japanese folders to our convention.
Tom Hull has developed the membership survey. It will be ready to go soon. It will be sent to our members, as well as local area group leaders. We hope to get feed back from non-OrigamiUSA members who belong to those groups.
The Paper, issue #97 has been through the final proof. It was with the designer, and is now at the printer’s. Expect it very soon. Wendy is stepping down as editor with this issue. The Board thanks Wendy for her service as managing editor. She took on a huge responsibility when she took over the job of managing editor. Issue # 98 is being worked on. Toby will take on the job of managing editor.
Janet Yelle reported a request by the Tucson Origami Club for origami paper, as they will be participating in the Second Asian Pacific Island Heritage Festival. A donation of 1000 sheets of origami paper will be sent.
The Policies and Procedures Committee will send an updated draft to the Board in March 2008.
Ros Joyce reported that the Library’s collection of various periodicals have been completely reorganized to make access more user-friendly. They are part of the OrigamiUSA Library.
The Business Committee has completed their inventory of The Source and is planning a sale for end of February/beginning of March.
Tom Hull reported that the Fund Raising Committee continues to work on their letter, which should be ready to go out in March. There have been some delays with the DVD by Vanessa Gould. We look forward to our members continued support.
Robert Lang reported some exciting news from the On-Line Presence Committee.
Our new web master, Trevor James, has been working on a new design for our web site that will be ready sometime in March. The committee is working on putting together the convention registration pages early, so that there will be plenty of time to get them up and running. They are looking into including credit card approval and streamlining the entire process. Trevor also put together a V’Ann Cornelius Memorial webpage in amazing time. This allowed members and friends of V’Ann to post their memories and comments.
Special Folding Fun Sessions will be March 2nd, April 6th, and May 4th.
There are lots of good classes being taught, and there’s still time to register. You won’t want to miss them!
Ros Joyce will compile the Board Notes in March.
