  • CARDS WITH TEA BAG FOLDS

    Need some last minute Holiday Cards? Let Kathryn show you how to make colorful cards using tea bag folded modules. Tea bag folds are made from small decorative paper (1½” – 2”) but don’t worry, they are all simple folds. Tea, scones and biscuits not provided! (Note: glue is used in this class.)

  • STAR CARD AND BOOK
    Teacher: Bob and Eunice Stack

    Ever wonder what else you can do with a Preliminary Base? Let Bob and Eunice show you, with these ingenious models including a Book by Aldo Putignano. But purists beware: glue will be used!

  • WOVEN WONDERS

    Well, it’s not exactly origami but is fun nonetheless. Karen will teach the traditional Swedish Star with variations, the Woven Fish (out of strapping tape) and finally the traditional Gum Wrapper Chain with variations as time permits. Swedish stars can be hung for a lovely holiday tree ornament.

  • STONE IN PAPER: Origami of Ancient Egypt

    Explore ancient Egypt through origami. Learn two models designed by Anita F. Barbour. The sphinx with its lion’s body and man’s head is one of Egypt’s most famous structures. The shawabti is a mummiform figurine placed in tombs to do chores that may be required of the deceased. The origami versions of these statues are one-piece models from squares.

  • SNOWFLAKES

    Get ready for winter with Wendy. She will teach a variety of snowflakes folded from vellum hexagons. The thin paper allows all the details to show when the models are put on a window glass. She will begin with a model from Joseph Wu and end with a design of her own. More snowy models in between as time permits. (These are NOT made by cutting!)

Special Sessions - December 14, 2008 Afternoon

  • FROEBEL FOLDS
    Teacher: Haggit Shalev

    Come explore the wonders of the Froebel Unit with Haggit. She will teach the basic unit, encourage the class to create their own variations and then teach several models from the unit. These will include a spinner, a basket, and a flower note.

  • BASCETTA MODULAR
    Teacher: Faye Goldman

    Modular Maniacs beware—this is one addictive unit! Once you startfolding this great unit by Paolo Bascetta you will find that you justcan't stop. Faye will show you how to put together 30 pieces into analmost perfect stellated dodecahedron. The lock is very strong andneeds no glue. Faye can also show you the more complicated 24 piececuboctahedron or show you how to color any 30 piece modular in either3 or 5 colors, so no adjacent edges have the same color. There arelots of possibilities for combinations and variations—including gooduse of colors. Nobody can fold just one.

  • EXTRATERRESTRIALS

    Enter Planet X if you dare. Let Greg introduce to these adorable and cute extraterrestrials. He will teach two of his own creations, one from foil and one from kami. Made from a cupboard base, these feature prominent eyes perfect for observing life on Earth.

  • ANGELS and a HO HO HO

    Carole will teach a variation of Neal Elias’ heavenly angel and as time permits, a few other flying ethereal delights. She will also teach an adorable “Happy Santa.”  The class will be topped off with a demonstration of ways to string or wire your festive artwork to transform them into ornaments, gift decorations and more. So come join “Christmas Carole” for this wing and a prayer and a “ho ho ho” of a class!

  • FLAGSTONE TESSELLATION
    Teacher: Omer Shalev

    Level: COMPLEX

    Omer will teach this cool “flagstone” tessellation, so named because of the color change. Lots of pleating and squashing, but no twisting! If you’re ready to divide your paper into 14ths, come fold Omer’s original design. Looks like fun!
