Elections

Each year, OrigamiUSA members elect the OrigamiUSA Board. Board members are elected by the membership for 2-year terms, with half the Board members elected in alternate years. Board members are elected as either Local members, who attend Board meetings in person, or Remote members, who attend Board meetings via teleconference. Board members serve on and chair various committees, which is where most of the organization's activities happen.

The election process starts in April with the Call for Nominations. A nominated candidate must send in a statement of candidacy, which is sent to all members along with proxy ballots in late May. Members vote for Board members from among the nominated candidates and send in their proxy ballots. Alternatively, they may cast their vote in person at the election, which is held as part of the OrigamiUSA Annual Convention at the end of June in New York City. At that time, the votes are tallied -- both proxy and in-person -- and the results are announced at the Annual Meeting. The election of Board officers (by and from the Board members) takes place a few weeks later.
